INTRO
As a newcomer to the BBS world, it can be really daunting trying to
write a simple message and posting it to somebody.
I will explain in detail how to use the 500CC TBBS text editor.
Once you sus this one out, you need only common sense to work out the
many others that are scattered across the Cosmos!
500CC Text Editor
If you're POSTING a new message, the first thing you are prompted for is
a subject (what your letter will be about).
Then you have the choice of using a full-screen editor.
TIP - ALWAYS SAY "YES" TO THIS QUESTION. It will make life very simple,
and will make correcting mistakes so much easier.
You are then asked who the message is going to be posted to. Just type
"ALL" if you want everyone to read it, or type a users name if it's for
somebody in specific.
LET THE TYPING BEGIN
Using the editor is so simple.
Like your WP, you can type out your words, and then use the cursor keys
to move around the text if you wish to make corrections.
The editor will also WORD-WRAP your sentences.
Once you're happy with your latest offering, press "Esc".
You are now presented with a series of options:-
Press "S" to save your message onto the BBS message base...
... "Q" if you suddenly decide that the whole thing was a complete
mistake, and want to return to the previous menu...
... "V" to view your masterpiece...
... or "F" to attach a file with the message, if you want to send a
friend a program or something.
2 QUOTE, OR NOT 2 QUOTE, THAT IS THE PROBLEM!
If you are replying specifically to a series of questions or points that
somebody has raised, it is very polite to QUOTE what they have said.
If you don't, the person you are replying to may not have a clue what
you are talking about, especially if they have posted heaps and heaps of
E-Mail in the time it has taken for you to respond.
When you are reading a message and find one that you wish to relay too -
when the options appear at the bottom of the screen (at the end of the
message), press "R" to reply to that message.
You are asked if you wish to change the subject, and in most cases you
probably won't.
Next, you are asked if this message is going to be private. That choice
is obviously yours.
Again, you have the choice of wether or not you want to use the screen
editor.
When you reply "YES", you are taken to the text editor screen, as
detailed above.
To quote the previous letter, HOLD DOWN "Ctrl", and press "Q".
Up onto the screen now comes a prompt for you to type where you wish the
quote to begin.
Press "L" to list the letter that you are replying too.
After the letter has been displayed you will notice each line is
numbered, e.g.
1> Mega Disk is a really
2> Amazingly Kool
3> Magazine.
4>
5> That's what I think anyhow!
At the prompt you type in the line number that you wish to start the
quote from, followed by the line number to end the quote on.
And that's it! You're taken back to the text editor above, now donning
your quoted reply text, and you can simply move around the screen and
answer individual points, e.g.
> Mega Disk is a really
> Amazingly Kool
> Magazine.
Yep, I'd go along with that!
> That's what I think anyhow!
And I am in total agreement.
